REMINDER: 2013 **ATOM**, PeeWee, Bantam, Midget Skills Academy
Saanich Minor Hockey will be hosting a skills academy for PeeWee, Bantam and Midget players from June 1 through July 27. Head instructors are Blaine Redmond and Bill Morrison, on-ice coaches will include Victoria Royals and Victoria Cougars players.
Cost is only $225.
Lessons focus on:
- Skating - Balance and agility, edge control, power skating, quick start/stops, forward skating and striking, backward skating, turning & crossover, attacking the net
- Puck Control - stick handling, stationary, moving, passing, protection, dekes/moves, evasive techniques, checking
- Goaltending - foot and pad speed, angles/positioning, reading/reacting, tracking/timing, team play with defence

Residential Transfer Policy
The Municipality of Saanich is a shared draw zone between Saanich Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) and Victoria Racquet Club Minor Hockey Association (VRCMHA) and first time registration maybe with either Association. Residents of this shared draw zone may transfer from SMHA to VRCMHA up until the completion of the first year of Atom hockey. The decision to transfer must be made prior to March 31 st of the current playing season. After that time, a player may transfer from SMHA to VRCMHA with the written approval of both local association Presidents and the Vice-President (South Island) and the District President.
Should the Associations not agree on transfer requests the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association (VIAHA) Officers shall make the decision. Their decision is final and not subject to appeal. As long as VRCMHA retains its “Winter Club” status, players registered with VRCMHA may return to Saanich MHA at anytime, subject to available space.

2013-2014 Coach Applications
The SMHA executive is now accepting coach applications for REC and REP coaches. Download the application form here.
Note: This form can be filled in, but you cannot save a copy of it onto your computer. Once completed, the form must be printed off and put into the Vice President/Coach Coordinator box at Pearkes Rec Centre.
The deadline for REP coach submissions is May 31, 2013.
If you would like to apply to be a REC coach, applications will be accepted until

Midget C1 2012-2013 League Champions
Midget Braves C1 wins the VIAHA South Island Midget C Division 1 League Championship for 2012 -2013 season. They had an impressive 13 wins and 1 lose from league games. Congratulations to all the players, superb coaching from Andy Dennett and Nigel Sims, great support from the parents.

Atom A’s Reach Another Final!
For the 4th time this season the Atom A team reached the final of a tournament/playoffs. The Braves won the semi-final in very exciting fashion, a sudden death shoot-out. Unfortunately, short players this weekend, the Braves ran out of gas in the final.

Midget B Take Gold in Ridge Meadows
Midget B takes home the Gold in the Ridge Meadows International Spring Rep Tournament. Winning 3-2 over Chilliwack in overtime and then a shoot-out in the semi-finals. They carried on to the finals with a 5-2 win over Nanaimo. Head Coach Derrick Holland, Assistant Coaches Nathan Hays and Rob Mortin.

Peewee B Wins Silver in Campbell River
Saanich Peewee B won the silver medal at the Campbell River Peewee Rep Tournament on March 17th. They played in a nail-biter final vs. an undefeated Vancouver Spirit team, with the final score being 3-2. Congratulations players and head coach Neil Johnson, along with assistant coaches Stu Gershman and Aaron Nakatsu. You made us all very proud!

PWC2 Takes Gold at Sooke MHA Spring Breakaway Tournament
Congratulations to PWC2 on winning the GOLD at the Sooke MHA Spring Breakaway Tournament! The team fought hard for a 7:4 victory over a tough opponent, Cowichan Valley C3. After winning the VIAHA Peewee C division 2 League Banner earlier in the month, this win was a great finale to one terrific season of hockey! Well done players and coaches! Enjoy your off season!

Atom A's Reach Island Finals
The Atom A team had a great playoff run.
First beating Oceanside in Overtime, next eliminating Victoria in the Semi-Final.
They just could not complete the run, out working and outplaying Campbell River, but losing in the Final.

Pee Wee C4 Playoff Champions
The Peewee C4 team courageously fought back from a 3-1 deficit against Sooke in the Semi-finals to narrowly win 4-3. The nail biter in the finals against Saanich C3 showed excellent determination and hard work by both teams in a game that could have gone either way! In the end, Saanich PW C4 narrowly squeezed by with a 2-1 victory. Congratulations to both teams for a well-played game and their success this season!
